"Wiki wiki" means "quick" in Hawaiian.

The original wiki is http://c2.com/cgi/wiki, created by Ward Cunningham for the Portland Patterns Group. Another fabulous wiki is the http://www.wikipedia.org.

Everyone can edit every page. Even as far as editing -- or removing -- text that others have written.

Pages have titles with WordsSmashedTogether. Typing a set of WordsSmashedTogether automatically creates a link to another page. If that page doesn't exist (e.g., NonExistentPage) following the link will create the page.

There are other simple rules for italicizing text, displaying normal web page links, etc (see HelpOnFormatting). A RecentChanges page tracks pages that have been edited recently.

What's to prevent someone from deleting anything I write? Or from spamming a wiki to death? Amazingly, it works very well -- precisely because the Community works together to keep itself healthy, rather than relying solely on technology to do so. This is part of the secret of Wiki:WhyWikiWorks.

This wiki is running on the MoinMoin engine.
